This abandoned temple courtyard scene showcases weathered stone architecture with arched alcoves and carved details. The central circular fountain features tiered steps and a statue, surrounded by cobblestone flooring that's being overtaken by vegetation.
Ivy growth was created using Blender's built-in ivy generator, then enhanced with custom geometry nodes to scatter leaves in natural, asymmetrical patterns that avoid the uniform look of standard procedural generation. The ivy cascades from upper structures and weaves through the stonework.
Foliage is optimized using my custom camera culling node group that's also available on BlenderKit. Additionally, viewport optimization features reduce the number of foliage and ivy leaf instances in viewport mode to prevent performance issues while maintaining full density for renders. This optimization can be toggled off from the modifiers menu if needed.
Lighting filters through the overgrowth to create atmospheric shadows across the courtyard. Weathering and moss effects were applied where moisture would naturally accumulate on the stone surfaces.
The buildings, pillars, railings, and fountain were hand-modeled. Statues and foliage models were sourced from Polyhaven. All textures are CC0 licensed, obtained from Polyhaven and AmbientCG to achieve realistic stone weathering and organic surface details.
