model: Switch Box Ins-0116-Freepoly.Org
Used in a variety of WWII combat aircraft including fighters like the P-47 and P-51, and bombers such as the B-17, B-24 and B-25. This "NEW OLD STOCK" switch box measures 3 3/8" X 3 1/8" X 1 3/4" with a set of toggle switches controlling "recognition" colored lights on the exterior of the aircraft. Used when returning from a night mission where the airfield operators watched for an enemy aircraft sneaking in the darkness, the pilot would signal with a pre-arranged set of colors and or a flashed code word on the lights. The toggles controlled the lights and a 'key' button for sending code words are on the box face. Made in the USA by Standard Aircraft Products, Inc., Dayton, Ohio, we acquired these in their original factory-sealed packaging.
