A stylized alien plant designed for underwater environments, created as part of a personal Unity project and a larger Sea Model Pack. Two intertwined root-like structures spiral upward from the base, tapering into a narrow forked tip at the top, with small wart-like spore growths dotting the length of both coils.
Design & Concept
The main body consists of two woody, rigid coils wound around each other, giving the organism a dense and structured silhouette. Clustered along the roots are soft, bulbous spore growths, each intended to release spore particles into the surrounding water.
Textures & Materials
The model uses two separate baked material sets — one for the root structures and one for the spore growths — each with their own baked texture maps. Note that this model is on the higher end of polycount at 128k faces. A Decimate modifier can be applied to reduce this with minimal visual impact, as the model is largely static.
Animation
The rigid root structures remain still, as their hard, woody nature wouldn't allow for much movement. The spore growths however are animated with a subtle pulsating motion, adding a sense of quiet biological activity to the organism.
Construction
The root coils were built using splines in Blender. The spore growths were hand modeled, sculpted at a higher resolution, then baked down to a simpler mesh.
Part of the Sea Model Pack
Created alongside the Alien Kelp, Chimney Mushroom, and Net Pod as part of a cohesive set of stylized underwater organisms.
Ideal for alien ocean floors, sci-fi underwater scenes, deep-sea biomes, and stylized nature environments.
