The scene recreates a Venice canal with colorful residential buildings lining both sides of a narrow waterway, connected by a traditional brick bridge.
The water is animated using noise textures for both coloring and displacement, with tessellation applied to create actual geometric displacement for realistic water movement. Buildings were hand-modeled as base structures, then detailed with CC0 assets including planter boxes, window coverings, and air conditioning units.
Materials combine multiple textures to achieve a natural, lived-in appearance appropriate for an old residential block. Special attention was given to the water-building intersection points, where masks were manually painted and moss/algae textures added to the building foundations. An ambient occlusion node was used to add distortion where water meets the buildings, mimicking the natural drag effect seen at canal edges.
Minor color grading is set up in the compositor to enhance the warm, atmospheric lighting of the scene.
