For historical information about this helmet: The Prussian Pickelmütze was introduced by King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia at the beginning of the 19th century. It was originally commissioned by King Frederick William III. designed for the Prussian infantry and later spread to other German states and military branches. The design was influenced by helmets worn by Russian soldiers during their visit to Berlin in 1812. It became the iconic symbol of the German military until it was retired for practical reasons during World War I; it offered little protection against the shrapnel injuries of modern warfare.
