Interactive 3D Earth-Moon system, built for learning, visualization, and animation with maximum physical accuracy. The proportions are correct and the Earth and Moon orbit a shared barycenter (not the earth’s center as is often assumed) with the Moon’s trajectory tilted at a realistic 5.15 degrees. You’ll also see true tidal locking, where the same side of the Moon always faces Earth while both bodies rotate naturally.
To get the most out of it, use the Geometry Nodes options: slide the “Distance” control to match real-world spacing, adjust the “Time” slider to rotate the system realistically, and toggle the trajectory visibility on or off. For correct lighting, just add a Sun lamp oriented along the X-axis. The model works seamlessly in both Eevee and Cycles.
Pro Tip for Real-World Scale: While the default scaled-down version is easier to work with, you can view everything at actual size by going to Scene Properties > Unit > Unit Scale and setting it to 1’000’000. Just remember to adjust your Clip Start and Clip End in the view and camera settings accordingly.
I’ve tried to make this as accurate as possible, but if you have suggestions for improvement, feel free to reach out!
