Hemp (cannabis) is a genus of plants within the hemp family. Hemp is one of the oldest crops on earth. The individual components of the plant (fibers, seeds, leaves, flowers) are also imprecisely referred to as hemp. Various products can be made from these parts of the plant, depending on the species of the genus used: rope (from the fibers of the stems), cooking oil (from the seeds), essential oil (from distilled leaves and flowers), and hashish and marijuana (from dried leaves , flowers and inflorescences). Hemp is often considered an intoxicating drug. Its legalization is being discussed in many countries, including Germany.
